The BANDIT XL is our widest version available of our standard BANDIT Quilt. Providing all the same great design features of the standard BANDIT Quilt but in a wider package. The BANDIT XL provides additional coverage for those that need it. The BANDIT Quilt is our hybrid cross-over quilt replacing our best selling Flight Jacket Quilt and providing many of the features from our High Performance RENEGADE Quilt.. Using construction methods from the Flight Jacket Quilt with the chamber layout of the RENEGADE Quilt we’ve created a well fitting affordable performance quilt.

Building off of previously established chamber designs, UGQ introduced the concept of isolated chambers on the torso and foot box. This baffle layout provides for zone filling of the quilt, allowing for additional down to be placed where it’s most needed to achieve MAXIMUM comfort and function. Using a combination of vertical and horizontal chambers the BANDIT XL Quilt will fit you like a glove. This unique concept pioneered by the RENEGADE Quilt provides for exceptional drape and avoids the traditional bridging of the quilt common with traditional left to right chambers.

The design, construction, ultralight fabrics, and UltimaDOWN 800/850/950 fill power downs all combine to make the BANDIT XL Quilt a true performance value.

All quilts are MADE TO ORDER and ship from our shop located in Jackson, Michigan, USA.

All BANDIT Quilts include a 40d Silpoly Stuff Sack and our Pad Attachment System (Single Strap).

Features:

BANDIT VS RENEGADE

The RENEGADE is fully contoured and has a full differential which is not that common in traditional backpacking/camping quilts. Both of these add substantially to the labor required to make a RENEGADE. There are only a few other shaped/differential quilts we are aware of on the market all priced much higher than the RENEGADE.

With the BANDIT we wanted to bring some of the great features of the RENEGADE to a more cost effective quilt for those that do not need all the bells and whistles. The chamber layout which we first used on the RENEGADE almost three years ago provides for two things. First it provides better drape across the torso, and second it provides for better down management in the quilt overall. The vertical chambers on the torso allows the quilt to drop down on the user providing for less dead air space, the vertical chambers also prevent the down from shifting to the sides making for possible thin spots in the center. Both of those increase the efficiency of the quilt over a traditional quilt.

SHELL CONSTRUCTION

We use our M10, MRS20, or HD1.0 fabrics for the outer shell of our BANDIT Quilts. MRS20 and HD1.0 fabrics provide an excellent compromise between ultralight weight, durability, and DWR finish – without sacrificing breathability. M10 is used for our inner shells because of its superior finish and satin feel. For those seeking the lightest possible finished product, M10 is the best option for both inner and outer shells. M10, MRS20, and HD1.0 fabrics have been given exceptional ratings in independent testing by the International Down and Feather Laboratory (IDFL).

The down-filled chambers on the torso section of the BANDIT Quilts run vertically (top to bottom), providing exceptional drape, which means that the quilt will lie close to your body, resulting in better thermal performance. Gaps between your body and the inside of the quilt are hard for your body to heat; the efficient draping of the BANDIT eliminates almost all of this dead air. The chamber design of the BANDIT’s foot box allows for a variety of options with a snug, efficient fit.

Each down chamber is constructed using Ultralight Nano-mesh baffles between the chambers to allow for maximum loft. This also enables thermal convection between the chambers. The vertical design of the torso chambers allows for heat transfer between your core and extremities. The size of the inner chambers varies from 4-5″, resulting in less down shifting than other larger-chambered designs.

The location of each Nano-mesh baffle is integral to the function of the quilt. Using advanced design and construction, the down is concentrated in those areas that need it most. This functional approach results in a quilt with maximum warmth for minimum weight.

OVERSTUFF OPTIONS

If UGQ already uses 130% of the necessary down in its regular quilts, why would YOU consider over-stuffing with additional down? We do over-stuff to 130% (included in the base price of all our quilts), but you may want to consider additional over-stuff if you are a cold sleeper. The extra down will help buffer the lower limits of the quilt, keeping you toasty-warm even beyond the lower limit. Another reason for ordering over-stuffing is when you expect to use your quilt for an extended period of time without access to laundering. The additional down will help to retain the performance of the quilt between washings.

We offer two types of over-stuff:

OVERSTUFF – This option is evenly distributed throughout the entire quilt including the foot box buffering the down in each chamber evenly.

FOOTBOX OVERSTUFF – This option is evenly distributed in just the bottom horizontal chambers of the quilt helping boast the foot box rating a few degrees.

FOOT BOX OPTIONS

The BANDIT-XL Quilt offers three foot box styles: Zipper w/Draw; Boxed Flat Sewn; or Insulated.

For maximum versatility, choose the Zipper w/Draw option, which allows you the choice of laying the quilt out fully open, creating a partially-closed foot box for ventilation, or fully closing the foot box for colder weather use. This option is available at no additional cost.

For simplicity and additional warmth – at the sacrifice of versatility – choose the Boxed Flat Sewn option. This style does not have the snaps or draw-cord of the previous option; rather the foot box is simply sewn shut then shaped into a “Box”. This option will reduce the weight of the finished product by approximately 0.25oz, and is an add-on at additional cost.

The Insulated Foot Box provides a full and continuous insulation envelope for your feet, making for some very HAPPY TOES!!! This style provides the ultimate in warmth for cold weather quilts. This option will increase the weight of the finished product by approximately 1.25oz, and is an add-on at additional cost.

TAPER OPTIONS

The BANDIT XL Quilt is available in two taper options, either a Full Taper or a No-Taper. The shape of the quilt will impact its coverage, weight, and thermal efficiency.

Full-Taper: When fully opened and lying flat, there is a gradual taper from the head end to the foot end along both sides. This style has better thermal efficiency and lighter weight, but provides less coverage and a smaller foot box than no taper quilts.

No-Taper: When fully opened and lying flat, this shape forms a rectangle, with the head and foot ends being equal. The advantage of this style is that it provides maximum coverage and maximum foot box space, but at the disadvantages of increased weight and slight loss of thermal efficiency. We do recommend that you add an additional 5-8% over stuff to offset the increased surface area of the quilt when selecting No-Taper. You can use the following chart as a guide line for how much over stuff to add to your quilt if you select No-Taper.

ULTRALIGHT FABRICS

M10 is an ultralight 10-denier breathable, calendared DOWNPROOF taffeta nylon.  Our M10 was developed to be a great all-around UL fabric that offers excellent wind/water resistance, has an incredibly soft hand feel, and is highly down proof (both in lab tests and in field use) all at a great price point.  It has a finished weight of only 0.66 oz/yd2, making it one of the thinnest/lightest taffeta nylon fabrics on the market. M10 has a Durable Water Repellant (DWR) finish applied to the face side of the fabric, protecting you and your down from environmental moisture. M10 has received a 5 out of 5 score on the International Rotating Box Down proof Test (a score of 3 is considered average). M10 is best suited for the inner of a quilt and the outer of a quilt for those looking for the lightest possible quilt but at the sacrifice of some durability.
MRS20 is our ultralight 20-denier mirco-ripstopped, calendared DOWNPROOF nylon. It has a 20-denier nylon thread woven into a micro-ripstop pattern, resulting in an exceptionally strong fabric with a finish weight of only 1.1oz/yd2. MRS20 has a Durable Water Repellant (DWR) finish applied to the face side of the fabric, protecting you and your down from environmental moisture. MRS20 retains a high level of breathability, allowing moisture from your body to pass through the quilt, preventing excessive condensation inside the down chamber. MRS20 has excellent color depth, giving your quilt a rich, luxurious look and feel. MRS20 has the softest feel of all our outer shell fabrics including HD1.0. MRS20 is an excellent combination of weight, durability, and value. MRS20 has received a 5 out of 5 score on the International Rotating Box Down proof Test (a score of 3 is considered average). MRS20 is the best overall outer shell fabric for weight, durability, and down proof score.
HD1.0 is our line of lightweight diamond-grid pattern nylon.  Designed to provide superior performance and feel compared to standard square-grid pattern fabrics, HD1.0 is both stronger and softer, with a unique visual pop.  At only 1.0 oz/yd2, HD1.0 performs to the same standard as standard 1.1 oz/yd2 fabrics, without sacrificing strength or durability, making it the premium fabric choice when conditions demand the most from you and your gear.  HD1.0 has a Durable Water Repellant finish applied to the face side of the fabric to protect both you and your down from environmental moisture. HD1.0 has received a 4 out of 5 score on the International Rotating Box Down proof Test (a score of 3 is considered average). HD1.0 is the most durable outer shell fabric we offer but at the sacrifice of some down proof.
OutdoorINK® fabrics are our line of lightweight custom printed patterns on a 20d 1.1 oz breathable, double-calendared polyester micro ripstop (MRS20-P) with DWR applied. Like M10 nylon taffeta, these fabrics combine breathability, wind/water resistance, and exceptional down proofing with the softest hand feel on the market. To make OutdoorINK® fabric, we start with a custom woven, 20d 1.1 oz/yd2 fabrics high thread-count polyester base material with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating. In addition to adding durability, this reduces moisture absorption compared to a nylon base. MRS20-P has received a 5 out of 5 score on the International Rotating Box Down proof Test (a score of 3 is considered average). MRS20-P is the best overall outer shell fabric for weight, durability, down proof score for those looking to have a unique printed quilt.
PRYM1® Patterns are digitally printed using the same process as OutdoorINK® on a 20d 1.1 oz breathable, double-calendared polyester micro ripstop with DWR applied. This fabric is DOWNPROOF  and suitable for use in down gear/projects. Similar to 1.1 oz ripstop nylon, but with less stretch, increased UV resistance, and a micro-ripstop grid pattern. MRS20-P has received a 5 out of 5 score on the International Rotating Box Down proof Test (a score of 3 is considered average). MRS20-P is the best overall outer shell fabric for weight, durability, down proof score for those looking to have a unique printed quilt.
HEXCAM® Patterns are digitally printed using the same process as OutdoorINK® on a 20d 1.1 oz breathable, double-calendared polyester micro ripstop with DWR applied.
There are lighter fabrics available on the market, but as with all things in life, there are small compromises to be made.  We chose these fabrics because they provide the best balance of performance across the board for durability, down proof rating, weather resistance, and weight all the factors critical to the long-term survival of you and your gear on the trail.

OUR DOWNS: Ultima800DD / Ultima850GD / Ultima950GD

Our BANDIT Quilts allow you to choose from three types of down: Ultima 800 fill power duck down; Ultima 850 fill power goose down; or for even lighter weight and superior performance in severe conditions, Ultima 950 fill power goose down. The combination of our DWR shell materials and UltimaDOWN will give you the perfect balance between moisture control and breathability. All our down is third party tested and certified for fill power, down content, species, and cleanliness. Learn more about down testing and standards HERE

Our commitment to using Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certified down means that the whole story of the down we source is monitored by the independent and highly respected Textile Exchange. With the rigid standards of the RDS, you can be confident that the down in your UGQ product is not only the highest quality available, but was also ethically sourced from humanely treated animals. Each phase of down sourcing is monitored and audited every year. Paired with tracing capabilities, the origins of down have never been more transparent. Learn more about the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) HERE

UltimaDOWN is not a hydrophobic treated down. Although we have offered hydrophobic treated down in the past, we have weighed the benefits vs. drawbacks carefully, and have recently stopped offering WR down. The benefits, which are marginal at best in real world scenarios, are offset by lower loft, intra laundering clumping, and the need for more down to offset the lower lofting and possible clumping. Effective April 11, 2016, we will no longer use hydrophobic down in our products.

PAD ATTACHMENT SYSTEM

Our BANDIT Quilts come with a removable pad attachment system to secure your quilt to your sleeping pad. Each quilt has a total of three attachment location along the sides, one at roughly the top of your thigh, one mid torso, and one at the shoulder line. Each quilt ships with a single pad strap for you to use featuring an adjustable elastic cord with attachment toggles that secure the quilt to your pad. Hammock users, warm weather campers, and those who sleep like the dead can choose to remove the system completely, leaving it at home to save weight.

INCLUDED ACCESSORIES

All BANDIT Quilts include a 40d Silpoly Stuff Sack and our Pad Attachment System (Single Strap).

*These recommendations are based on the quilt snugged around your neck, if you wish to cover your head size up one length. Measurements are based on the quilt laying out flat pulled snug, actual measurements may vary from those shown here*To measure for girth first determine if you are a side sleeper or back sleeper, if in doubt we recommend you measure for side sleeping. Laying on your side have someone measure from the floor up your chest, over your should and down your back to the floor. Add 4-6" to this measurement to determine the appropriate sized quilt for you.

*Measurements are based on a quilt with a Zipper & Draw Cord foot box, the foot box fully opened, the quilt laying out flat and then pulled snug. The addition of a Boxed Flat Sewn or Insulated Foot Box will shorten the overall measurement of the quilt by 4-6″. This will not affect the sizing recommendations so please make your selection based on the recommendations above. Due to the nature of individual production actual measurements may vary from those shown here*

I took my new quilt on a four day backpacking/camping trip on the Manistee River Trail and it worked beyond expectations! Despite hammock hanging in rain with driving winds followed by temperatures that dropped in the mid-20s, my UGQ Bandit XL never failed me. I stayed comfortably warm throughout. Very happy with this quilt!

Great piece. First quilt and works great.

Have not used it as of yet, but everything looks great.

Really nice quilt, appears to be high quality construction, very lightweight and warm. Tested it once at the house but haven’t had a chance for a camping trip with it yet. Love the fact that they can make these for the guys that aren’t short or skinny. This was the first quilt that I’ve been able to find that is designed for people 6’5” and up. Maybe a bit pricier than preferred but worth it to get one custome made for me.

I purchased a Bandit XL because I was looking to try a quilt, and as a bigger guy (6’3″ 290LBS) I wanted to be sure I had a quilt that would be wide enough to cover me, and with the 65″ width option on the UGQ, I knew I would be okay. I purchased my 20* quilt in May of this year, and opted for 2oz of overstuffing, and a few short weeks later it arrived at my door. The quality of the materials and the construction are outstanding. All of the seams are back-stitched so everything is nice and secure, and I have complete confidence my quilt will last for years. I put it to work right away, and used it over the summer. I was shocked at how versatile a quilt is. I was able to use my quilt all summer in Maryland and Virginia, even though it is a 20* quilt, as it is super easy to regulate your temperature. But the real test came a week ago when I took it elk hunting in the Cascades. We backpacked in and set up camp under a tarp shelter. The weather was with us and we didn’t get any rain, but even still it got into the 20’s at night with a ton of wind. After getting through the first night with a failed inflatable sleeping pad, I used a spare thermarest foam pad the rest of the trip and was perfectly comfortable for 6 nights in the backcountry. Thanks for the great product, UGQ! I’m a believer!

UGQ has really fast response times to any emailed question and showing the production status of all the orders ahead of mine in real time really helped me. I am absolutely planning on purchasing a Zeppelin under-quilt and possibly a 2nd Bandit top-quilt in the future.

I’m 6’3, 210, retired, and spend a lot of time doing backpacking, as well as Elk hunting trips in Colorado, Idaho, and Deer in the Midwest. Being retired I especially enjoy relaxing and section backpacking the AT in the east. I’m out every other month on a trip somewhere. As a Marine, I packed in Norway, Japan, Scotland, Alaska, and the Philippines. I know climates, and I know what gear works for me. Recently I decided to lighten up my pack a bit, the knees aren’t what they used to be. This whole ultralight quilt thing intrigued me, (although I will never go anywhere without my woobie), makes me feel I can do a few more years on a trail somewhere, so I bit. After studying the quilt industry for the past 6 months, I called what I felt were the top three cottage “American Made” companies to talk about what I needed. They were all good, customer service was excellent, but here’s the thing with gear, it has to “fit” you. The only guy I called who actually listened to me was Paul. He owns the company, I didn’t have to talk about my needs with a polite, customer service order taking representative. Buying a brand name generic quilt that fit’s the majority is simply a waste of money. That’s why you see negative reviews, these guys went cheap, then the quilt didn’t work, so they are torked and take it out on the product. If they were serious and had taken the time to ensure their new gear actually fit them, they wouldn’t have a negative impression of it. So the negative reviews are pretty much unwarranted and the fault of the person who bought the product. Having said that, if you are seriously looking to buy a quilt for your backcountry needs, I would encourage you to call Paul and Missy at EGQ. In my opinion there is no other company in the world who will take care of you like EGQ, as evidenced by the number of people around the world who know gear and order EGQ custom made quilts. I actually could’ve ordered a quilt for a few bucks less from another cottage company, (which by the way I’m not saying they are bad or anything), but when I called Paul, he actually took the time to understand my needs and helped me decide the perfect sizing and fit. I find value in that and couldn’t take all that great advice and use it to buy from another company. He earned my business. Soooo….. I took it out last week for three days of 24/7 rain and mid 30 degree temps at night. So excited to report it was worth every penny. I’m a cold sleeper, so I ordered a 10 degree quilt, with the ultralight and breathable 10d fabric they offer, on both the outside and inside, in XL, 84″ long, 60″ wide, with overstuff and a neck baffle. I also purchased three additional “replacement” straps to attach it to my pad. Total weight of this amazing, (and a bit pricey but worth it), quilt on Paul’s scale in his shop was 33 ounces. Thank you to Paul and Missy for making me this incredible quilt, and extending my backcountry experiences. This quilt will last me a lifetime, will make every night of my backpacking/hunting trips so comfortable, and was worth spending the few extra bucks to get it custom fit. (only cost me about $50 bucks more than the others, and I did get a neck baffle and extra straps, which work perfectly if you take the time to learn how to use them}. An extra $50 bucks or so to have the perfect quilt that will last….that’s a great value to me.

This is my first real quilt. Have been using an opened up Cats Meow for years. Really no comparison, I am hooked on quilts now. So much roomier and comfyer. Plus the 30° bandit is warmer than my 20° north face bag. Incredible.

100% satisfied with my Bandit XL & with the customer service provided. I ordered a custom quilt and the mfg. time was less than I expected. The only problem I have is now I want another one. If your interested in any of this companies products give them a try, you will not be disappointed.
