D50T FABRIC
Are you wondering what the difference is between DTRS75 and our new D50T fabric, and how both compare to Dyneema?
First, all three are laminated, waterproof fabrics. D50T is the newest offering from Challenge Sailcloth, designed with notable improvements:
-
Improved lamination layer
-
Improved adhesive layer
-
Quieter in use
-
Better printing quality
-
Better long-term durability
-
Weight nearly identical to DTRS75
-
Slightly lower cost
Strength: In tensile testing, D50T and DTRS75 are nearly identical. Dyneema, by comparison, is significantly stronger—about 4x stronger in tensile strength (at 1.0 weight) than D50T. However, for dry bags, stuff sacks, and food bags, that much strength is rarely necessary. In fact, Dyneema is still prone to punctures and small holes, whereas lightweight fabrics like D50T—with its woven outer layer—offer a practical balance of toughness, waterproofing, and affordability.
Waterproofing: Yes. D50T is fully laminated and waterproof.
Weight Comparison: D50T is much lighter than 2.92 Dyneema and only slightly heavier than 1.43 Dyneema.
Cost Comparison: Products made with D50T typically cost 25–50% less than equivalent Dyneema products, making it an excellent choice for ultralight gear without the premium price tag.
